Football Weekend, 9–12 October 2026: Liverpool–City, Real Madrid and the League Restart

Friday is Dortmund and Málaga. Sunday at 18:30 Moscow is Liverpool against Manchester City. The rest of the weekend is the part people miss.

The international window does not fade out. It stops, and then nine leagues try to restart on the same weekend. From Friday 9 October to Monday 12 October 2026 the live board goes from a Nations League list to a club list, and the match that will dominate the English-language searches is not the first one to kick off. It is Liverpool vs Manchester City on Sunday at 18:30 Moscow.

Before that Sunday there is a Friday, a full Saturday and a Monday night game that Sky picked for a reason. Times below are MSK, which is UTC+3. Britain is still on BST (UTC+1) and Spain, Italy and Germany are still on CEST (UTC+2). The clocks do not fall back until 25 October, so none of these kickoffs need a winter conversion. If a TV guide later moves a match for a cup replay or a police request, the board follows the league list, not the first version of this article.

Friday is two games, not a warm-up graphic

Borussia Dortmund vs Werder Bremen is Friday at 21:30 MSK, 20:30 CEST, Signal Iduna Park. The Bundesliga published that slot as confirmed, not as a matchday window. Dortmund–Bremen is a fixture with a memory longer than the current table, and it is the first Bundesliga ball after the break. Augsburg–Bayern on Saturday will get more of the highlight packages. Friday is the one you can actually watch without six other games talking over it.

Málaga vs Espanyol is Friday at 22:00 MSK, 21:00 CEST, La Rosaleda. This is matchday 8, not a postponed opener. Málaga’s return to the top flight was the story in August; by October they are just a Friday night home side trying to take something off a Barcelona-adjacent calendar. Espanyol away on a Friday is the sort of game that gets buried in England because the Premier League has not started yet. On this board it is the La Liga row, full stop, until Saturday afternoon.

There is no Premier League fixture on Friday 9 October. Ipswich–Nottingham Forest is Friday 23 October, a different matchweek. If a social post claims an English game on this Friday, it is looking at the wrong week.

Saturday 10 October, Moscow afternoon into night

The Premier League’s published matchweek 6 starts with Arsenal vs Leeds United at 14:30 MSK (12:30 BST) at the Emirates. That is the TNT early kickoff in the league’s own release. Leeds are back in this division; Arsenal at home in an early window is the game that sets the tone before anyone has had lunch in London. It will be over, or nearly over, before the 17:00 MSK group begins.

At 17:00 MSK (15:00 BST) four matches kick off together: Aston Villa–Brentford at Villa Park, Chelsea–Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge, Ipswich–Fulham at Portman Road, Sunderland–Brighton at the Stadium of Light. None of these is a placeholder. They are the four three-o’clock games in the Premier League’s October list. Chelsea–Bournemouth is the London one people will clip. Ipswich–Fulham is the one that tells you whether a promoted side can handle a Saturday at home against a team that spends most weeks in the middle of the table and occasionally higher. Sunderland–Brighton is a wear-and-tear game: a physical home side against a team that wants the ball on the floor. Villa–Brentford is local enough, in English terms, to be nasty without being a derby anyone outside the Midlands will brand.

At 19:30 MSK (17:30 BST) the Saturday night selection is Manchester United vs Tottenham at Old Trafford. The league listed it as the Sky 17:30. It is also, three days later, the same United side that has to go to the Metropolitano for Atlético in the Champions League. You do not need a tactical essay to see the problem. Saturday night at Old Trafford and Tuesday night in Madrid is the week the squad either absorbs or it does not. Tottenham are not travelling to make up the numbers so that United can rotate. The row on the board is the match. The midweek row is a different match. Do not merge them into one “United week” blurb and miss the kickoff.

The same Saturday outside England

Bundesliga, 16:30 MSK (15:30 CEST), five games: Hoffenheim–Hamburg, Augsburg vs Bayern at the WWK Arena, Mainz–Leverkusen, Union Berlin–Elversberg, Paderborn–Stuttgart. Bayern in Augsburg is the short trip and the scoreboard everyone will check at half-time of the English 17:00 games. Mainz–Leverkusen is the one that can embarrass a side still treated as a title factor. Paderborn–Stuttgart is easy to skip and is exactly the sort of game that decides whether Stuttgart’s European winter is calm or anxious. At 19:30 MSK, RB Leipzig–Eintracht Frankfurt at the Red Bull Arena, the late Bundesliga kickoff, level with United–Spurs.

Serie A on Saturday: Genoa–Fiorentina at 16:00 MSK, Inter vs Parma at 19:00 MSK, Napoli–Frosinone at 21:45 MSK. The Inter time is the one we took from the club’s own first-half calendar: 18:00 CEST, not a rounded “evening” guess. Inter then host Club Brugge on Tuesday in the Champions League, same San Siro, different competition. Parma at 19:00 is the league game. Brugge at 22:00 on Tuesday is the European one. Napoli–Frosinone is the late Italian kickoff, 20:45 CEST, and it will still be going when some of the English highlights shows have already picked a narrative.

La Liga on Saturday, after Friday’s Málaga game: Rayo Vallecano–Athletic Club at 15:00 MSK, Vallecas; Alavés–Atlético Madrid at 17:15 MSK, Mendizorrotza; Barcelona–Getafe at 19:30 MSK, Camp Nou; Real Madrid–Villarreal at 22:00 MSK, Bernabéu. Real Madrid vs Villarreal is the last big domestic kickoff of the night. Atlético’s trip to Vitoria is the awkward one, because Atlético are in Madrid on Tuesday hosting Manchester United. A Saturday away game in the Basque Country and a Tuesday night at the Metropolitano is the same squeeze United have, from the other side of the tie. Barcelona–Getafe at 19:30 MSK overlaps United–Spurs and Leipzig–Frankfurt. You will not watch all three. Pick before kickoff, not at minute 20.

MLS is in there too, on a different clock. Toronto–CF Montréal at 20:00 MSK Saturday, then Inter Miami–D.C. United and New England–Seattle at 02:30 MSK Sunday. LAFC–Vancouver is 05:30 MSK Sunday. Those are not the European primetime. They are the rows that appear if you leave the board open past midnight.

Sunday is Liverpool–City, and a lot of other football

14:30 MSK Sunday is early in Italy: Como–Roma. At 16:00 MSK the Premier League has Crystal Palace–Nottingham Forest at Selhurst and Hull City–Everton at the MKM Stadium, and Serie A has Lazio–Monza and Lecce–Bologna. At 16:30 MSK the Bundesliga has the Rhine derby, Köln–Borussia Mönchengladbach. At 18:30 MSK three things stack: Liverpool–Manchester City at Anfield (16:30 BST, the Sky Sunday selection in the Premier League list), Freiburg–Schalke (17:30 CEST), and Sassuolo–AC Milan (18:00 CEST, listed as 17:00 BST on the UK fixture grids, which is the same instant).

Liverpool–City is the game. Anfield, 18:30 MSK, two clubs that have spent this decade measuring themselves against each other more often than the table always deserves. The article does not need a predicted score. It needs the kickoff, because a wrong kickoff is how people miss the match and then blame the stream. The league’s October release put it at 16:30 BST on Sunday 11 October. That is 15:30 UTC and 18:30 MSK. Not 21:00. Not “Sunday night” in the vague sense used by recap shows filmed in New York.

Later Sunday, 21:45 MSK: Cagliari–Juventus, and in Spain Elche–Celta at 15:00, Real Sociedad–Deportivo at 17:15, Betis–Osasuna at 19:30, Racing Santander–Valencia at 22:00. Juventus in Sardinia is the Italian late game. Valencia away at Santander is the Spanish late game. St. Louis–LA Galaxy is 02:00 MSK Monday if you are still awake, which most people watching Juventus will not be.

Monday is one Premier League game and one La Liga game

Coventry vs Newcastle is Monday 12 October at 22:00 MSK, 20:00 BST, the Sky Monday night in the Premier League list, Coventry Building Society Arena. Coventry are in this division because the season’s promotion places said so. Newcastle away on a Monday after an international break is a nasty assignment for a side still teaching its crowd what a home night in this league feels like. It is also the last domestic row before Tuesday’s Champions League slate, which is why it matters more than a typical Monday filler.

Levante–Sevilla is the same Monday at 22:00 MSK, 21:00 CEST, Ciutat de València. Same Moscow hour, different country, different feed. If your guide says “Monday night football” and only names Newcastle, it skipped Spain.

What this weekend is not

It is not matchday 2 of the Champions League. That is Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 October: Arsenal–Lille, Atlético–United, City–PSG, Roma–Real Madrid, and the rest. Mixing those into Saturday’s board is how kickoff pages go stale in an afternoon. The midweek piece is here. Europa League and Conference League matchday 2 fall later in the month; they are not this weekend either.

It is also not a full 380-game almanac. The board has the Premier League’s ten, La Liga’s ten, Serie A’s eight from the published Saturday–Sunday list, the Bundesliga’s nine confirmed kickoffs, and a handful of MLS games whose ET slots convert cleanly. Lower-league cups and friendlies that blogs invented for 3–4 October were left off. We would rather a Friday with two confirmed rows than a Friday with twelve guesses.

Flags on these rows should now match the country the club actually plays in. English clubs carry the St George’s Cross, Scottish clubs the saltire, Spanish clubs Spain, German clubs Germany. A Union Jack on Arsenal or Celtic was the old bug, from a two-letter gb code that means the United Kingdom. Match pages pull the flag from the club record. If a new club was added for this weekend — Leeds, Ipswich, Hull, Augsburg, Levante, Racing — the flag was set when the club was added, not inherited from a British default.

Use Tomorrow on Thursday night if you want Friday’s Dortmund and Málaga rows before the date changes. On Saturday morning start with Today, and use Now only once something has kicked off. The two-hour live window is a display rule, not a referee’s watch. A game can still be in progress when the row flips; the score, once we have one, is what marks it finished.

Sources checked 5 October 2026: Premier League published matchweek 6 (10–12 October), La Liga matchday 8 times in CEST from the fixture grids updated in early October, Bundesliga matchday 5 confirmed slots (Dortmund Friday 20:30 CEST, the 15:30 Saturday cluster, Leipzig 18:30, Köln–Gladbach Sunday 15:30, Freiburg–Schalke 17:30), Inter’s own note that Inter–Parma is Saturday 10 October at 18:00 CEST, and the Serie A Saturday–Sunday list that matches those UK clock times. Hubs: Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A.
