If you opened WatchLiveMatch looking for Arsenal or Liverpool on Monday 5 October 2026, the empty club rows are not a bug. The Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and the Bundesliga are inside the October international window. Club football comes back on Friday. Until then the Today board is UEFA Nations League, and the kickoffs that share a clock are 21:45 Moscow.
That 21:45 MSK slot is 18:45 UTC, which is 19:45 in Britain and 20:45 in most of central Europe. We converted the published 19:45 BST listings rather than guessing a local kickoff in every capital. One earlier game sits apart: Cyprus against Latvia at 19:00 MSK (16:00 UTC). After that, seven matches start together. Tuesday repeats the pattern, with Kazakhstan–Faroe Islands moved forward to 17:00 MSK and the rest at 21:45 again.
Why the club board looks dead
Matchweek 6 of the Premier League is Saturday 10 October, not this Monday. Arsenal–Leeds is the early game, Manchester United–Tottenham is the Saturday night pick, and Liverpool–Manchester City is Sunday at 18:30 MSK. None of those rows belong on Today. La Liga’s matchday 8 opens Friday with Málaga–Espanyol. The Bundesliga opens the same evening with Dortmund–Werder. Serie A’s Inter–Parma is Saturday. Putting those fixtures on the Monday board would be a calendar error, the same kind we spent August correcting when projected dates did not match the leagues.
Thursday 8 October is the awkward day. Sky’s fixture list for that date is empty, and we did not invent a friendly to fill the gap. If you land on Today and see nothing, check Tomorrow and then the rest of the week underneath the tabs. The week view is where Friday’s return shows up before the MSK date rolls over.
France against Belgium is the Monday match
France vs Belgium is at the Stade de France, 21:45 MSK. These two do not need a preview written in adjectives. They have spent a decade meeting in finals, semifinals and groups, and the Nations League is the competition that still has something to settle in October after a summer World Cup. France are at home. Belgium have to travel into a stadium that has not been kind to them in the matches people remember.
What the board can tell you, and what it cannot: kickoff, competition, and a flag that is actually France and actually Belgium. It will not tell you the lineup until the federations publish one, and we are not going to paste a predicted XI and call it team news. If the game kicks off on time it sits under Now for two hours. After that it drops to finished only once a score is stored. We do not flip a row to a made-up scoreline at full time.
The other 21:45 MSK games are real fixtures, not decoration around the Stade de France. Italy host Türkiye. Ukraine host Hungary. Northern Ireland host Georgia at a 21:45 kickoff, not a mid-afternoon one. Bosnia and Herzegovina host Poland. Romania host Sweden. Montenegro host Armenia. Cyprus–Latvia is the outlier at 19:00 MSK, which means it can be underway before you have even decided which of the late games to follow.
Venues for those ties are marked “Home venue” on the match page unless we had a ground we were willing to name. England at Wembley, Scotland at Hampden and France at the Stade de France are the three we attached to a stadium. Belarus–Finland is explicitly a neutral listing because a home ground was not something we could confirm from the fixture list we used. Inventing a Minsk stadium would have looked precise and been worse.
Tuesday is England, Spain and Scotland
Tuesday 6 October is the day the English-language searches will spike, because England vs Czechia is at Wembley at 21:45 MSK. Czechia are not a friendly opponent you can file under “rotation.” They have spent this Nations League cycle being awkward for bigger names, and Wembley on a Tuesday after a World Cup summer is a different crowd from a March qualifier. The row is on Tomorrow until midnight Moscow, then it becomes Today.
Croatia vs Spain is the same kickoff and, if you only have one screen, the harder choice against England. Spain lost the World Cup final to Argentina in July. Croatia are the side that keeps producing tournament runs out of a squad that never looks deep enough on paper. A Nations League group game in Zagreb does not settle that history. It does tell you whether Spain have shaken off the final or are still playing as if the summer has not ended.
Scotland vs Slovenia is at Hampden, also 21:45 MSK. Scotland’s flag on the board is the saltire, not the Union Jack. That sounds like a design note. It is also how you tell a Scotland national-team row from a Celtic or Rangers club row at a glance, which matters once the leagues restart and both kinds of fixture sit on the same site. Slovenia have been competitive in this group; BBC’s Nations League table snapshot going into the week had the two sides level on points. Treat it as a match, not as a backdrop for the Wembley highlights package.
The rest of Tuesday at 21:45 MSK: Switzerland–North Macedonia, Albania–San Marino, Moldova–Slovakia, Estonia–Iceland, Luxembourg–Bulgaria. Kazakhstan–Faroe Islands is at 17:00 MSK, early enough that it can finish before the Wembley team sheets are even argued about. Albania–San Marino is the mismatch of the night. It is still a listed fixture, so it is on the board, and it is not going to be written up here as if it were France–Belgium.
How to read the board while this is on
Yesterday, Today, Now and Tomorrow are Moscow calendar dates, not UK dates. A game at 21:45 MSK on Monday is Monday in Moscow and still Monday evening in London. A game that kicked off at 23:30 UTC would be Tuesday morning in Moscow. None of the Nations League kickoffs we listed do that. The MLS game that does cross the date line is Chicago Fire against Vancouver, 03:30 MSK on Wednesday 7 October (00:30 UTC). That is the only club row between the international games and Friday’s league restart, and it is easy to miss if you only look at the European evening.
Flags: England is the St George’s Cross (gb-eng on the flag service we use), Scotland is the saltire, Northern Ireland is its own mark, not a second England badge and not a generic British flag. Club sides in the Premier League now use the England flag as well. Celtic, Rangers, Hearts, Hibernian and Motherwell use Scotland. If you still see a Union Jack on an English club, the row is stale. Refresh. The image comes from flagcdn; the two-letter code gb is the United Kingdom, which is the wrong flag for both England and Scotland, and it was the bug.
What replaces this on Friday
Friday 9 October, 21:30 MSK: Borussia Dortmund vs Werder Bremen at Signal Iduna Park. The Bundesliga listed that kickoff as 20:30 CEST, confirmed, not a window. Same evening, 22:00 MSK: Málaga vs Espanyol at La Rosaleda, the Friday opener of La Liga matchday 8. Those two rows are the moment the board stops being a national-team list.
Saturday is then too full to preview inside this piece. Arsenal–Leeds at 14:30 MSK, four Premier League games at 17:00, United–Spurs at 19:30, Bayern in Augsburg at 16:30, Inter–Parma at 19:00, Barcelona–Getafe and Real Madrid–Villarreal later. The weekend guide is separate: 9–12 October, the domestic restart. Champions League matchday 2 is the week after that, 13–14 October, and it includes Manchester City–PSG and Roma–Real Madrid.
What we checked, and what we left out
The Monday and Tuesday lists follow the published UEFA Nations League set for 5–6 October: the 19:45 BST cluster, the 17:00 Cyprus and Kazakhstan kickoffs, and the England, Croatia and Scotland games BBC had on the Tuesday slate. We did not add the friendlies that circulate on unofficial October calendars (USA–Canada, Argentina–Benin and the rest) because those lists do not agree with each other and several of them collide with dates that were already Nations League. A wrong friendly on the board is worse than a short list.
Scores will be filled when the games are finished and the result is in a report we can cite. Until then the row stays a fixture. The Watch button on a row opens the match page. Official broadcasters still depend on the country you are in; the Nations League rights are not the same as the Premier League rights, and a partner button is not a promise that your local feed is free-to-air.
If you only remember three times: Monday 21:45 MSK, France–Belgium, with Italy–Türkiye in the same window. Tuesday 21:45 MSK, England–Czechia, Croatia–Spain and Scotland–Slovenia. Friday 21:30 MSK, Dortmund–Werder, and the club season is back. Thursday is empty on purpose.
Sources checked 5 October 2026: UEFA Nations League fixture pattern for these dates, BBC’s Tuesday slate (Croatia–Spain, England–Czechia, Scotland–Slovenia, all listed 19:45), and the Premier League’s published October matchweeks so the club gap is explained rather than papered over.
