Premier League Matchweek 9: Arsenal Win at Anfield, Brighton Beat City, United Lose at Chelsea

Havertz scored at Anfield. Ayari scored at the Etihad. Chelsea beat United 2–0. Matchweek 10 starts Friday.

Matchweek 9 of the Premier League finished on Monday night. The table that matters on Wednesday morning is the one after Arsenal’s win at Anfield and City’s home defeat to Brighton. Everything else from Saturday is already on the board. Kickoffs below are Moscow time. Britain is on GMT, so 15:00 in England is 18:00 MSK, and Monday’s 20:00 GMT slot was 23:00 MSK.

The headline is Liverpool 0–1 Arsenal on Sunday. Havertz scored in the 16th minute. Arsenal had not won a Premier League game at Anfield since 2012, in the round-ups we checked. Liverpool took seventeen shots without one on target, on that same Sports Guru note. That is a result you do not smooth into “both sides were fine”. It is a result that put Arsenal three points clear after City had dropped three at home the day before.

Saturday at the Etihad and at Stamford Bridge

Manchester City 0–1 Brighton is the other half of the title story. Ayari’s first-half goal was enough. Brighton had not won a league game at City before this one, on the weekend round-up. City stay second on those accounts, two points behind Arsenal and level on the gap Brighton then held to third. We are not freezing a table graphic that will move again on Friday. The score is 0–1. That is what the board keeps.

Chelsea 2–0 Manchester United was the early game, 15:30 MSK, the TNT noon slot. United arrived already in trouble and left 17th on seven points in the Sports Guru cut of the weekend. Chelsea’s win is the cleaner of the London results. Tottenham beat Crystal Palace 2–0 at 20:30 MSK. Villa and Fulham drew 1–1 at 23:00 MSK, a kickoff pinned late because Villa had Barcelona on Tuesday.

The 18:00 MSK block: Bournemouth 2–0 Leeds, Brentford 2–0 Nottingham Forest, Coventry 3–1 Sunderland, Hull 2–2 Ipswich. Coventry’s win lifted them off the bottom end of that round-up, from 19th to 16th. Hull’s draw keeps a promoted side in the conversation without pretending a 2–2 at home is a title race. Forest’s loss is the form line that matters for Saturday, when they host City.

Monday closed the round: Newcastle 0–1 Everton, Thierno Barry’s goal on 49 minutes per Football Web Pages. Everton’s away win is the quiet result of the week and the reason Friday’s home game against Coventry is not a free hit for anyone watching only the title race.

What the previous weeks already said

Matchweek 7 is scored on the board now: Everton 0–2 Chelsea, Brentford 1–2 Liverpool, Fulham 1–0 Hull, City 3–2 Ipswich, Newcastle 0–1 Villa, Bournemouth 2–0 Sunderland, Brighton 5–0 Palace, Leeds 1–1 United, Forest 0–1 Arsenal, Tottenham 3–1 Coventry. Matchweek 8 includes Villa’s 2–1 over City, Chelsea’s 0–2 against Spurs, United’s 0–3 at home to Bournemouth, and Liverpool’s 2–0 over Brighton. Those rows were empty for too long. They are not empty anymore.

Champions League matchday 3 sits behind this weekend too. Liverpool beat Villarreal 4–3. City beat AEK 5–1 and then lost 2–4 at home to PSG in matchday 2, which is already ancient for a Wednesday preview but still the European form line people misremember. Como beat United 4–1 on 21 October. That is why Tuesday’s 3–2 over Roma was treated as a release valve, not as business as usual.

Next on the Premier League board

Matchweek 10 starts Friday 6 November, 23:00 MSK: Everton vs Coventry. Saturday is Leeds–Tottenham at 15:30 MSK, Arsenal–Hull and Fulham–Newcastle at 18:00, Forest–City at 20:30. Sunday is four games at 17:00 MSK including Palace–Liverpool and Sunderland–Chelsea, then United–Villa at 19:30. Those hours are the published November list, GMT into Moscow.

Use Yesterday for Anfield and the Monday night. Use the Premier League hub for the ten upcoming fixtures without Europe mixed in. Sources checked 4 November 2026: Premier League fixture amendments, Football Web Pages, weekend round-ups with attributed scores, UEFA for the midweek European scores that feed the same clubs.

Arsenal at home to Hull on Saturday is the fixture television will sell as a formality. Hull’s 2–2 with Ipswich says otherwise. City at the City Ground is the fixture that decides whether Saturday’s Etihad hangover lasts a week. Liverpool at Selhurst on Sunday is the fixture that decides whether Anfield’s blank is a blip. Write the kickoffs down. “Sunday afternoon” is how people miss the first twenty minutes.

Havertz’s Anfield goal is the detail every English desk led with, and it should be. A 1–0 away win built on a sixteenth-minute header and a blank shot map for the home side is a specific kind of away performance. It is not the same as the 0–3 City win at Anfield in October, and mixing those two Sundays in one sentence is how previews go stale. October’s 0–3 is already scored on the older board. November’s 0–1 is the new row.

Brighton’s win at the Etihad deserves the same precision. First league win at City, one goal, a side that entered the weekend third on the round-up we used. That does not make Brighton title favourites. It does make City’s next away league game, at Forest, a different assignment from a routine November trip. Leipzig tonight sits between those two league games. European midweeks are not parentheses. They are part of the legs.

United’s Saturday was a 2–0 loss at Chelsea before the Roma comeback. The league table does not award points for European atmosphere. Seven points from the cut we cited is the number that travels to Old Trafford on Sunday. Villa, for their part, have a draw with Fulham and a European midweek that went wrong at the Camp Nou. Both clubs will hear “six-pointer” on the broadcast. The useful sentence is still the kickoff: 19:30 MSK.

Coventry’s 3–1 over Sunderland is the other weekend fact that changes Friday. A side that was 19th in that round-up is not the same opponent Everton would have preferred. Everton’s win at Newcastle gives them the right to start as favourites at home. It does not give them a bye. Friday at 23:00 MSK is late for Moscow and normal for Liverpool. Plan the evening accordingly.

Spurs’ 2–0 over Palace keeps them in the weekend conversation without pretending a home win over a London rival is a title statement. Palace’s next league game is Liverpool at Selhurst. That is a sharper test. Brentford’s 2–0 over Forest and Bournemouth’s 2–0 over Leeds are the mid-table results that disappear from round-ups and then decide Christmas. They are on the board. Leave them there.

One last calendar check before you close the tab. Monday’s Newcastle–Everton was 23:00 MSK, not 22:00. Sunday’s Anfield game was 19:30 MSK, not the old 18:30 Liverpool–City slot from October. GMT changed the arithmetic. If your notes still use BST offsets, rewrite them once and keep the new sheet.

Chelsea’s 2–0 over United also resets how you read their Sunday trip to Sunderland. A side that has just beaten United at the Bridge does not get a free away day in the north-east, but it does get a quieter media week than United’s. Keep both facts. The score on Saturday was 2–0. The next league kickoff for Chelsea is 17:00 MSK on Sunday 8 November.
